MoodMap maps how people feel across their city. Location and emotion are sensitive, so MoodMap is built local-first: your data lives on your device first, and the network is a sync target, not the source of truth. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the MoodMap mobile app and this website.
Data we process
- Location & movement — your walking routes and the places where you tag a mood. These are recorded on-device to draw your map and detect when you linger somewhere.
- Mood entries — the feeling you tag, with its time and place, plus the two values (valence and arousal) that colour the map.
- Account — the email (or phone/Google identity) you use to sign in, so your data can sync to your account.
- Waitlist — if you join the waitlist on this site, we store the email address you submit, to notify you at launch.
How your data is used
- To draw your personal route and mood map on your device.
- To build a community heatmap. No individual mood point is ever shown publicly — a city cell only appears once at least 5 people have contributed to it, and only the anonymized average is shown, never who felt what.
- To power recommendations (e.g. mood-matched playlists and nearby places) based on the aggregate mood of an area.
What leaves your device
Your raw routes and individual mood points stay on your device and in your private account. Only anonymized aggregates — area averages that meet the minimum-contributors threshold — are used for the community layer. We do not sell your personal data.
Sharing & third parties
We use service providers to run MoodMap (for example, hosting and database infrastructure). They process data only to provide their service to us. Music and place recommendations may involve third-party services (such as Spotify) subject to their own terms.
Your choices & rights
Your own mood history is always private to you and your account. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data — including removing your email from the waitlist — by contacting us at moodmapco@gmail.com.
Data retention
We keep account and mood data for as long as your account is active. Waitlist emails are kept until launch or until you ask us to remove them. Aggregated, anonymized data may be retained as it is no longer tied to you.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
